The Marshal (GM): Just as the sun comes up, the same kid that has been coming to you with messages shows up at the hotel.
“The Doc wants to see y’all! Right away!”
Eddie: “Y’don’t mean Doc Clayton now…”
Alfred: rolling 1d10

The Marshal (GM): “Who’s that? I mean Doc…the Doc.”
Eddie: “Oh… sorry.”
The Marshal (GM): “I guess I don’t know his name…”
Ulysses hurriedly gets ready
Alfred: “The fellow that had the crazy lady, Lizzy was it?”
The Marshal (GM): “Suzy. yeah.”
Eddie: “Guess we better not waste time then.”
Alfred: “We might as well, it could be he’s been fixing some of Walter’s work from last night.” quietly “Not that fellow in the outhouse… nor the one ulysses shot….”
Ulysses: “Lets go then”
The Marshal (GM): You get to the Doc’s office. He says, “Sit, sit. I think you need to hear something.”
Alfred brushes off a seat and plunks down
Eddie: (last distraction i promise: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=441804245898378&set=a.107467695998703.16385.100002064186775&type=3&theater )
Ulysses: “Ehhh…Whst’s up doc?”
Alfred: “That’s…. quite a tale, was this villain a black man, name of walter by chance?”
Eddie: every mention of a limb makes Eddie increasingly uneasy
The Marshal (GM): “Uh…No…You mean the Walter I saw yesterday?”
Alfred: “no no, the other one. I was told he was a drunk, and we dioscovered him to be an apallingly poor doctor”
Ulysses: “What the hell doc! How do we stop him?!?”
Eddie: “Scalpel’s one of those little itty bitty knives, right? Like what comes in a special little case?”
The Marshal (GM): “I’ve got no idea, son,” he says while starting to look in Alfred’s eyes and feel his head, “has yer friend here been hit on the head?”
Ulysses: “Yes. Repeatedly, I think…”
Alfred: “That’s right, we saw the empty case of one in… uh… hmm… Clayton’s room was it? When we asked Sheriff Earp to revoke his license to practice medicine”. Mumbles “I was much relieved to see he had no tools…”
The Marshal (GM): “Yes, a scalpel is a very sharp surgical instrument.”
Eddie: “‘Cause that’s what was missin’ from that doctor’s bag, yeah…”
Ulysses: “How can someone cut off an arm or a head with just a little knife thing?”
Eddie: shudders
Alfred: “Oh it’s not really that hard. The bones aren’t continuous. Once you cut through the muscle and tendon the limbs fall off quite easily. A scalpel is quite up to the task I assure you” alfred smiles
The Marshal (GM): “Well, you don’t cut through the bone. A sharp scalpel can cut through tendons and gristle like a hot knife through butter.”
Eddie: “Can we please stop talkin’ about the details of all this…”
The Marshal (GM): “And the Butcher was a big man, I mean a head taller than the guards I saw his with.”
“I’m sure he’s quite strong.”
Ulysses: “Butter? Doc. some of us aint et yet this mornin”
Eddie: mutters “Some of us sure ain’t now.”
Alfred: taps his lips “I don’t think you’d want butter on such a wound Ulysses.” looks away and mutters on “perhaps a hot brand would do you better… or maybe …”
The Marshal (GM): “Well, I’ll wish you good luck in your hunt. For my part, I will be available here if my services are needed tonight.”
Ulysses: “So this person is not Clayton then?”
Eddie: “Uh, thanks for the information.”
Alfred: “If the drunken fellow… Walter I think his name was… stops by would you tell him we have questions for him please?”
The Marshal (GM): “Uh…sure.”
Eddie: “Let’s leave the doctor alone for now, alright?”
“So now we gotta be on the lookout for a real tall feller? That’d make it easier.”
Ulysses: “Doc, you hear of anymore missing folks or limbs, you be sure and tell is or Sheriff Erp, Okie dokie?” turns to leave looking quite green
Eddie: twitches
The Marshal (GM): You walk back out into the street. People seem to be on edge. Groups of people whisper together.
Alfred: “Well how shall we spend our morning then? I wonder if we should check on those confederates. Make sure they aren’t sore at you for that outhouse incident”
The Marshal (GM): You hear snatches of what they say,
“All those Rebs fault…”
Ulysses: snatches
Eddie: “Uhh… I dn’t think that’s a real good idea.”
The Marshal (GM): “Damn Yankees, trying to pin this on confederates.”
Eddie: “I don’t think an apology’d cut it now.”
The Marshal (GM): “I hear that man was a spy. Wonder what he’d found out…”
And so on…
Alfred: “oh yes the spy. I had forgotten about him. SHould we notify someone about that? I’m sure there’s some government agency that would be interested in his demise”
Eddie: “Mister Ulysses, aren’tcha worried them’n their friends’ll come after you now?”
Ulysses: “Im sure Jake’s gang will completely understand that I didnt kill Ralphie, some buycher did, and even after they saw me cut Jake down…In SELF DEFENSE…that we can all let sleeping dogs lie.”
“I plan on aviodin the situation for now.”
Eddie: smiles weakly “Good plan.”
Alfred: “You do make a good point. Surely they are reasonable folk, and once their tempers cool they’ll see the right of it. That does save us the trouble of finding them again, we never did ask where they were staying”
Ulysses: “You kill enough men in self defense you start to think..”.Maybe its me?""
Eddie: “I kinda like Mister Ulysses’ plan better… why’d y’wanna talk t’them some more anyway?”
Alfred: “I don’t know. Just seems like we’d do better to not have a hostile gang hunting us, not that they have reason to do so as Ulysses explained”
Eddie: tilts her head slowly
Ulysses: “Maybe Suzie has calmed down and is willing to talk now?”
“Drop it Al.”
Eddie: seizes on that “You’re fulla good ideas, Mister Ulysses!”
The Marshal (GM): As you wander back toward the Dog Eye later, the innkeeper says, “Oh, I’m glad you’re back! Suzy woke up and was talking! She wants to talk to you.”
Alfred: “Ah good. Is she up in her room then?”
Eddie: smiles to the innkeeper
The Marshal (GM): “Ah, another room. I didn’t think it would be a good idea to put her in her old room.”
Ulysses: “I say we set Eddie take the lead on this on. What do you say Al?”
Alfred: “Oh right, yes. Dreadful mess in there. I suppose the maid will have a time of it getting it cleaned and presentable for guests”
Eddie: “Why me now? You seem t’be a good talker, Mister Ulysses.”
Alfred: “I don’t mind. Eddie spoke with her when we visited her before. Likely they have a rapport now”
The Marshal (GM): She leads you up stairs to the room as you discuss.
Ulysses: "\ I just think she’d be more willing ot talk to you is all. Aad besidespaniky working girs aint really my speciality.
Eddie: “Well, alright then. Poor thing…”
Ulysses: " I just think she’d be more willing to talk to you is all. And besides paniky working girls aint really my speciality.
Eddie: clears her throat and knocks on the door “Ah, um, Miss Suzy?”
The Marshal (GM): Suzy reclines on a pillow in her room, “Oh, thank you for coming.”
Ulysses: (thats what she said)
Eddie: “How’re y’feelin’ today?”
Alfred removes his hat and waits by the door
The Marshal (GM): “Much improved, thank you.”
Eddie: smiles “That’s real wonderful. You must be made of real tough stuff, Miss Suzy.”
The Marshal (GM): “I thought you’d want to know what happened to…” and her face clenches up, but she gets under control, “Paul.”
Ulysses waits with Al but strikes a strong protector pose
Eddie: “If y’wanna talk, we’ll all lissen. D’y’mind if we come in?”
The Marshal (GM): “Oh, yes. Sit.”
Eddie: “Thanks.”
Ulysses removes his hat and enters
Ulysses: “Ill stand thanks” looks curiously out the window
The Marshal (GM): “Paul had insisted on coming up to my room. We usually met in the alley, but after running into you that afternoon, we was afraid we’d be spotted.”
Ulysses: (Nature “lover”)
The Marshal (GM): “Don’t get the wrong idea. I sold secrets to Paul. He was a spy, you know.”
“The rebels, they are talkers…”
Eddie: blinks “So that was true, an’ that means… that means you are too?”
Ulysses turns form the window with piqued interest
The Marshal (GM): “I don’t know if I’m a spy…no one gave me any fancy papers or nothing.”
“We were talking quietly when the monster burst in. I didn’t even hear him coming. And the stairs are so noisy. It was a complete surprise.”
Eddie: listens closely with absolutely no poker face
The Marshal (GM): “Paul hadn’t locked the door. Normally I do that, but since he only wanted to talk, I didn’t bother.”
Alfred: “Monster?”
Ulysses: “Maybe he didn’t come up the stairs?”
The Marshal (GM): “Yes, monster! He was tall and slim, but I didn’t get a good look at his face.”
Eddie: “He, umm, he had a little knife, didn’t he…”
Alfred: ‘Slim you say, not brawny?" muttering “the doc said he was a strong man…”
The Marshal (GM): “I saw the flash of his knife yes. And he was very tall.”
“All I remember was the way his eyes glared out at me from beneath the brim of his black top hat. Then he hit me across the face and I blacked out.”
Eddie: “Poor Miss Suzy…! You were so lucky but so unlucky too!”
Ulysses: “Sounds like you was real lucky”
Alfred: "I don’t think you need to relive it any further ma’am. I think you’ve given us the important details." mumbles “I think we were there for most of the rest of it…”
The Marshal (GM): “I guess…I don’t know why he didn’t kill me instead, or as well.”

Eddie: “D’y’have any place t’go to now, somewhere that ain’t here?”
The Marshal (GM): “I’ve been wondering that too. Maybe it’s time to move on.”
“Abilene or Topeka…maybe Chicago!”
Eddie: smiles “Someone as brave as you, you helped out your country an’ all, gotta be great things you’re capable of.”
Alfred: “Once Sheriff Earp pays us for our services here… I do recall him offering us a wage… perhaps we can offer you a few dollars to help you on your way to one of those fine places?”
Eddie: surprised at the genuinely good idea
The Marshal (GM): “That’s nice of you all. I have some money though. Paul paid for his secrets.”
Ulysses: “So I guess Clayton goes from the Suspect list to the probable victims list…”
Eddie: “An’ you’re sure none of them confederate fellas know what y’done with Mister Paul?”
Alfred: “I don’t know that…. well we aren’t spies… I don’t think we can pay…. but might you be able to tell us… that is if you recall… what it was exactlythat… well what secrets did you pass on?”
The Marshal (GM): “I don’t know think I should tell you that. That was for Paul’s ears. And I never heard anything that I’d say was that important anyways.”
Eddie: “That’s fair.”
Ulysses: “Thats a great point Al, Was Paul a target for a random victim?”
or
Alfred: “He wasn’t in an outhouse… so he doesn’t match the profile”
Eddie: frowns “That story the Doctor told us about the… Butcher… he was killin’ Union soldiers, right?”
Ulysses: “Thats right”
“Confederate i mean”
Eddie: “Sorry, I was kinda distracted by what he was sayin’. I thought maybe there was somethin’ to who he was, uhh, goin’ after. Guess not.”
Ulysses: "Im more thinking of how’d he get up here… If he didnt come up the noisy stairs he got up here somehow…:
Alfred: “He came in the window… is there a fire escape perhaps? Or maybe a ledge to another oom?”
Ulysses: “Suzie, do you know if theres a way up onto the roof from up here?”
The Marshal (GM): “I don’t know, you’d have to ask the innkeeper.”
Alfred: “She did say he was extremely tall… perhaps reaching into 2nd floor windows isn’t beyond his abilities.” mumbles “though I’m not sure hte human frame can support that height…”
Eddie: “However he got in, he sure didn’t go out the front door, right? So he must’ve come an’ gone the same way.”
Ulysses: “If you think of anything else please send for us. Lets go talk to that inkeep.”
The Marshal (GM): “Certainly.”
Eddie: “Good luck t’ya, Miss Suzy.”
Alfred: “Just a moment, let me ponder this a moment… whoever it was worked with clayton… the …. parts … were in his room. Clayton’s room was on the same floor as Walters. Walters was on the 2nd floor. There weren’t any alarms or catalysts…. Kurukl smashed the head thingy…. maybe the guy used Clayton’s window, and left his collection behind when we burst in?”
Eddie: “Could do?”
Alfred: “Well if there were a ledge or other roof below the windows it would be a good conveyance.” trails off " I didn’t check the structure when we were..
Ulysses: “Yea, that might be it but how’s he fet in a 2nd floor window?”
get
Alfred: “He used another second floor window, clung to the wall to get across.”
Ulysses: “Lets go ask and check”
Ulysses looks for inkeeper
The Marshal (GM): “What can I do for you, deputies?”
Ulysses: “The person that did in Mr Paul. I’m thinking he didn’t come in the front door. Id there anyway someone can get onto the roof or the 2nd floor from outside?”
The Marshal (GM): “There’s a trapdoor to the roof in the second floor hallway.”
Ulysses: looks to Al“You should go check that out”
Jason: “I can, if you think that’s advisable. I’l return in a moment.,..”
Eddie: “What if he’s still up there?”
Ulysses: “Then lure him to the edge and I’ll shoot him from the alley below”
Alfred: “Lure him? I suppose he… might be up there… I can try I think… do be ready though”
Eddie: “Y’really, really can’t be serious.”
Ulysses: “Oh, I’ll be ready. Give me 2 min to get into position”
Alfred nods and slowly walks upstairs
Ulysses heads outside to the alley
Eddie: “Uhh, Mister Innkeep, might be wise t’move everyone away from the windows an’ such.”
reluctantly follows Ulysses
Ulysses: “I sure hope he don’t burn Dodge city down…”
The Marshal (GM): The innkeeper leads Alfred to the door and puts up a ladder.
“There you go.”
Alfred: “Thank you sir. Best stand aside and leave it to the deputies.” Then he begins to climb
The Marshal (GM): And he runs down the stairs.
Eddie: shifts from foot to foot nervously
Alfred opens the trap door and with his flame thrower ready he pees up through it
The Marshal (GM): Alfred peeps through the crack. He see’s a small mat of straw just a few feet away.
Alfred takes a deep breath and throws open the trapdoor quickly letting off a gout of flame through it to get teh suspect moving
The Marshal (GM): A huge gout of flame shoots up into the sky. Eddie and Ulysses see it clearly.

The Marshal (GM): But there are no footsteps or anything moving on the roof.
Eddie: “I don’t hear no screamin’…”
Alfred: once the fire settles down ALfred will climb onto the roof
Ulysses: “Where did you find that kook anyway?”
Eddie: “We were sharin’ seats on the train…”
The Marshal (GM): The roof is covered in bloodstains. The straw is clean, but the roof looks like a slaughterhouse.
Alfred: Shouts “Ulysses… Eddie… there’s no one up here…. some one was though… he made quite a mess, like a dog that hasn’t learned to use the papers”
Eddie: “What d’y’think is up there then?” looks curious and more than a bit relieved
Ulysses: “MAybe you should go help him look around up there. I can keep a lookout from down here”
Eddie: “Alright.”
The Marshal (GM): Eddie sees the bloodstains covering the roof.
Eddie: covers her nose and mouth immediately
“Y’said DOG! Like a bad trained DOG!”
Alfred: “he must have done quite a bit of work up here”
Eddie: “What the hell kinda home d’y’come from?”
Alfred: “Excactly like that… this straw would have kept it celan, but he splattered it everywhere else”
Eddie: hurries to the edge of the roof, mouth still covered, and waves at Ulysses
Ulysses waves back feeling like a rube
Alfred pokes through the straw to see if anything is hidden in it
Ulysses makes searching motions with his pistols
The Marshal (GM): There’s a boot and some ripped and bloody clothes under the straw.
Eddie: uncovers her mouth long enough to shout at Ulysses “THERE’S BLOOD ALL OVER!”
Alfred: “perhaps you shouldn’t shout that… there might be people in the street who might hear…”
Ulysses: “The sherrif’s NEAR?”
Eddie: gives Alfred an astonished look
“Look, that’s the idea!”
“We need t’let Sherrif Earp know about this, this’s important!”
“This AIN’T normal!”
Alfred: “I don’t see any evidence we can use up here. We may as well get down before we slip”
Eddie: astonished look intensifies “Y’really don’t?”
Alfred: “Well I don’t think the innkeeper will let us collect this shingles…”
Eddie: “I’m gettin’ off this damned roof right about now.” heads back for the hatch
Ulysses: “I’ll go get Erp before it starts to rain and wash away!”
Alfred: “maybe if I spray some water on it we can collect the blood fro ma downspout?”
Eddie: not listening, head disappears down the ladder
Alfred follows eddie down
Eddie: looks a mixture of annoyed and disturbed upon reaching the others
Jason: “Well it seems we’ve found the laboratory of this… Clayton… or walter… I don’t recall who it was at the moment. But he’s not here anymore. Do you suppose he has another workshop in town?”
Eddie: “D’y’mean we gotta go lookin’ at all the rooftops for more of this?”
Alfred: “I should hope not. If he’s a true doctor he’d want a better shop. The facilities up there are attrocious”
Eddie: “I mean… look, why’d someone have a bunch of places like that? It’s awful an’ it’d smell besides. I bet this is the only place. An’ that he’ll be comin’ back here soon.”
Alfred: “I suppose it might be at that. I really don’t know how ssuch a deranged individual would behave.” mumbles “I was just trying to think like such an experimen….”
The Marshal (GM): Wyatt surveys the roof after Ulysses arrives with him.
“Well, shit.”
Wyatt Earp: “This is where he was all along.”
Alfred: “Eddie said we should collect the evidence. I was cogitating ona means of doing so” trailing off “Buckets by the down spouts and water….”
Eddie: winces and shivers “Anyway… we think he might be back, maybe?”
Wyatt Earp: “I think you’re right.”
“We should probably leave the mess for now so he doesn’t think anything is amiss.”
Alfred: Muttering to himself “If I recall correctly blood is slightly acidic. If left here I wonder if….”
Ulysses: “Terrific. Aint no way in hell i’m waitin up here for him!”
Eddie: “How about we find other places t’watch then?”
Alfred: “That’s what I was saying before Mr. Eddie! This is no place for hte surgeries he was attempting. It seems to me, that he’d have another place he’d go” mumbling “Cleaner, running water, perhaps a fire…”
Eddie: “Y’mean like this was the slaughterhouse an’ the kitchen was someplace else?”
Alfred: “I don’t think surgeons generally work with butchers. Their craft is generally far more precise and careful”
Eddie: gives the others a plaintive look
Ulysses: ‘Well shit…"
Wyatt Earp: “Yep.”
Alfred: “What about if we ran a string from the trap door… maybe some tin cans… trailing over the side…” mumbles “when he comes up…”
Wyatt Earp: “Does he use the trap door?”
Alfred: "It’s the only doo to the roof I think. This implies that he’d have to use it to gain access"
Eddie: “Right.”
Ulysses: “Well he needs to get up there somehow. Maybe of we watch the building to catch him before he gets up here?”
Eddie: “Right, we just need t’pick good spots. Dunno about you but I ain’t waitin’ up here for him.”
(( s/here/there ))
Alfred: “Ulysses should I stay here? I think you wanted me to steer him to an edge. I couldn’t before becasue… well he has to be here for that. But once he’s kind enough to arrive I can do as you asked”
Wyatt Earp: “Well, I have some other business to attend to as well. Believe it or not, there’s a lot more town than just this saloon. I will be back during the fireworks. You figure out how your going to catch this Butcher when he comes back. I’ll be around after sundown for the fireworks.”
Ulysses: “I’d hate to think of you up here alone, if he gets by us. Chief, would you wait up here with him?”
Kuruk: Sure
“Cheif will wait here”
The Marshal (GM) Wyatt tips his hat and leaves.
Alfred: “Fire works. will their be a sky spectacular, or is this an approval for me to use my flame device to keep the butcher contained?”
Eddie: “Y’all sure this’s a good idea?”
Ulysses: “Just remember Al…Buildings is flammable”
Alfred: “The sun will be murderous up here. I wonder if you might be good enough to fetch us a parasol? I can keep a patch of hte roof wetted down… that ought to help a great deal too”
“The building? Well yes… I suppose it might be. They have fire brigades right? Though I don’t think arson is this butchers style” mutters “worries over teh strangest things..”
Eddie: “Glad t’stick with you, Mister Ulysses.”
Ulysses: “Yea, me and Eddie will set a perimiter. If you see him make sure you let us know!”
Eddie: “Guess that’s the plan then.”
(sunburn!)
Alfred does spray water over a corner of the roof to cool it down. Despite Earp saying not to disturb the scene
Ulysses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F_opWg9_qI
The Marshal (GM): As the sun goes down, the crowds come out. Music starts and people seem to forget for a while the bloodshed of last night.
Eddie and Ulysses circle the area. They see Wyatt in the crowd. He nods at them as he passes by.
Eddie: gives a tense smile
The Marshal (GM): Kuruk and Alfred can see the fireworks crew on the edge of town getting ready to light off the rockets.
Ulysses nods back with an elaborate series of signs like a 3rd base coach
Kuruk: scowls
“Kuruk Scowls”
The Marshal (GM): After a while the signal is given and the fireworks show starts.
Red, white and blue rockets shoot up into the sky as the crowd “oohs” and “aahs.”
Alfred: “Ah good. I was worried we might not see the butcher when he arrived. This display should give us ample light”
Ulysses: “Well, if I were gonna do some murderin this is the perfect distraction”
Kuruk: “White man’s devil magic”
Eddie: “Don’t like the way you’re thinkin’, but you’re probably right.”
