Alfred:Alfred approaches the innkeeper "Pardon me good sir. We’re deputies of the law here on an investigation "then mutters “and a screwy one don’t know why…” before continueing “Perhaps we can have a moment of your time?” and trails off mumbling “hope the bounder didn’t lie….”
The Marshal (GM):“Uh, yes, certainly. Anything at all. Law and order and all that.”
Ulysses:“We wanted to ask some questions about what happened last noght.”
Alfred:“Indeed good sir” much quietter “as all good citizens shuld, would that there were more…”
The Marshal (GM):“Terrible business…”
Eddie:keeps quiet, letting the other two do the talking
Alfred:“Could you tell us who was registered to the room that the …. incident took place in?”
The Marshal (GM):“That was the Union Sp…that was Paul’s room.”
Alfred:“The spy you say?” muttering “some spy everyone seem’s to know…”
The Marshal (GM):“Well, it’s going around…”
Ulysses:“Anything you can tell us about him? Who he may of talked to or met with while he was here? besides Ms Suzy, that is…”
Eddie:while listening, slowly looks at the expressions of the others in the area
Alfred:"Come to think of it, we don’t even know what he looks like. Before the crime I mean. You know… when he had a head… and arms… " voice trailing off “it would be ever so helpful in describing him…”
The Marshal (GM):“He was always coming and going. Busy man. He talked to everyone. But he had a temper at times.”
Ulysses:“Yes, anything at all would be helpful”
The Marshal (GM):“What else would you like to know?”
Alfred:"Did he have any visitors? On the night he was attacked specifically, but you know " trailing off again “any other night as well…”
Ulysses:“Well, how about a description?”
“Anything you can tell us about him? Who he may of talked to or met with while he was here? besides Ms Suzy, that is…”
Eddie:“Oh, did he, umm, leave anythin’ behind in his room? Since he never checked out an’ all…”

The Marshal (GM):“Mostly just Suzy, but he did have words with Clayton, that tenderfoot from back east.”
Alfred:“Clayton? This name is familiar” he turns and for a moment looks at Eddie then mumbles “no not you… another young fellow”
Eddie:uncomfortable smile
The Marshal (GM):The woman sneers, “The drunk…”
“But he’s paid his rent so far.”
Alfred:“His rent? Does this clayton stay here as well?”
The Marshal (GM):“Oh, yes, upstairs. Next to Paul’s room, in fact.”
Eddie:head tilt
Alfred:“Right next to? Perhaps we should have a word with him as well. By chance was he here the night of the accident?”
Ulysses:“Is he around now?”
The Marshal (GM):The innkeepers look at each other, “Uh, I’m not sure if he was here or not.”
“Come to think of it, I’m not sure if he’s here now either.”
Alfred:“Well we’d better check just in case.” Turns to ulysses “Should we knock, or perhaps in pursuit of law and order acquire a key to his room?”
Ulysses:“Good idea.”
The Marshal (GM):“Well, I don’t know, he is a guest…”
Eddie:“Can I ask that we knock? Folks don’t take well t’doors bein’ kicked in.”
The Marshal (GM):“You can knock, I suppose.”
Alfred fumbles a tin star out of his pocket and holds it aloft as he marches up to the room
Ulysses:“OK, lets go see if he’s home”
Eddie:“Lord almighty…”
The Marshal (GM):You reach Clayton’s room.
Ulysses:Knock-Knock
The Marshal (GM):There’s no answer.
Alfred:"Sir… Mr. … Uhm… it’s the sheriff’s men. "
Eddie:“Huh. Maybe he ain’t in there then.”
Alfred:mumbles “we still ought to go in, just have a quick look”
Eddie:“D’y’mind openin’ the door, Mister Innkeep?”
Ulysses:KNOCK-KNOCK
Eddie:hollers
The Marshal (GM):There’s still no answer.
Eddie:frowns
Alfred:’I’ll go speak with the inn keeper. Perhaps he’ll open the door for us."
Ulysses:“One of us needs to convince the inkeep to let us in…”
The Marshal (GM):The innkeeper comes up the stairs.
Alfred:“I understand you’re reticent to open the doors of a a guests room, and this is commendable for such an establishment.” he raises his star again “But as yo ucan se we are the appointed deputies, and the law requests that we have a look inside. I assure you no harm will come to your room or your guests possessions” much quieter “hopefully not, trouble seems to follow us…”

Ulysses:“Dont make no promises Al”
Ulysses has guns at the ready
Kuruk:I guess you can’t hear me
Alfred:Alfred smiles at her muttering thanks, and turns to open the door
Kuruk:damn
The Marshal (GM):The door opens easily.
Inside, the room is very neat.
There’s a steamer trunk at the foot of the very neat bed.
Eddie:“Guess he’s out?”
Ulysses holster his weapons and looks around the room carefully

The Marshal (GM):Alfred looks under the bed. There are a black medical bag, and a carpet bag.
Eddie opens the trunk. Inside is a stack of neatly folded white silk shirts.
Eddie:whistles
Alfred:“A medical bag? How odd. You can’t very well be drunk and attend patients. I can’t imagine him having a thriving practice”
Eddie:“He must’ve been doin’ fine enough t’be wearin’ these all the time.”
Ulysses:“Nice duds for a town drunk. You sure this is the right room?”
Alfred:“Well, I don’t see any weapons. And a knife or blade of some sort must have been used in the murder. Perhaps we are in the wrong place?”
The Marshal (GM):“Oh, quite,” says the innkeeper from the hallway.
Eddie:“Hey now, why’re you assumin’ this guy done that?”
Alfred:“I think I said he didn’t do it?” looking away and speaking to himself “didn’t i? I meant to say that.” then to Eddie “But I agree, he doesn’t appear to be the criminal we’re after. There’s no weapons in here”
Ulysses:“Whats in the bag Al?”
Eddie:looks relieved “Kinda glad we didn’t find anythin’ horrible in here.”
The Marshal (GM) test
Alfred:“It’s a medical bag. Doctor’s tools I should think. Vials of medicine, bandages, forceps, perhaps a bone saw. Things of this nature”
Alfred opens the bag and peers at the contents
Ulysses:“Bone Saw?”
Eddie:shivers
The Marshal (GM):In the medical bag, there are supplies, just as he surmised. But, no saw or surgical instruments.
Alfred:“Yes, a common tool for amputating limbs in dire emergencies”
The Marshal (GM):There is a small black case in the bag.
Alfred:“Well there isn’t one here, nothing at all for surgery anyway. I suppose he didn’t cover all injuries then.”
Eddie:“So…. I’m feelin’ kinda bad if we’re goin’ through an innocent man’s things like this. Maybe we should pack it up and move on?”
Alfred:“I tend to agree with you on that, it does not appear that we’ll learn much from this room.” trailing off “our last lead, perhaps this investigation is done…”
Eddie:closes the trunk lid firmly
Ulysses:“Whats in that little case?”
Alfred:“Case? which case… Eddie opened the trunk alread?”
Eddie:“Y’mean the little tiny one, right?”
Ulysses points to case
Alfred:“Oh yes in here” he opens the medical bag again and flips open the case
The Marshal (GM):In the black case is nothing but a layer of felt. But there is the distinct impression of a scalpel.
Ulysses looks at the window
Alfred:“I think it used to hold a scalpel… which is another tool for surgery. Used to slice open the skin for any number of reasons. Again, there are no weapons here, nothing that might have perpetrated the crime”
The Marshal (GM):The window is intact.
Eddie:“Uhh, I ain’t so sure y’couldn’t hurt someone with one of them, but I guess it’d be way too little.”
“I mean, for what happened an’ all.”
Alfred:“Well yes it would hurt quite a bit to be opened up with a scalpel” he shows her the empty box “But there is no scalpel, so it’s a moot point”
Eddie:“Things I never figured I’d be arguin’ about.” gives a weak smile “We should probably clear outta here now though, huh?”
Alfred:tapping his chin and thinking out loud “Well if there was a bone saw and a scalpel they would have been up to the task of cutting off the limbs and head. But really what physician would think to do such a thing. I can think of no ailment which requires such aggressive treatments”
Ulysses:“Yea, lets go. Maybe that Doc knows somthin about this Clayton? Maybe he’s been around to talk shop?”
Eddie:shudders and nods to Ulysses

Alfred opens the bag and peers inside
The Marshal (GM):Now that Eddie mentions it, Alfred smells formaldhyde.
Ulysses gingerly reaches for the carpet bag…
The Marshal (GM):Alfred opens the bag and a stiched together pile of arms sewn to a head fall out.

Eddie:after babbling in shock for a bit with the others, Eddie realizes “holy crap, that is a HUMAN HEAD with ARMS STITCHED TO IT” and appropriately freaks out, and takes off down the stairs
The Marshal (GM):By Alfred’s scientific eye, a couple of the arms and legs appear to have been pickled in formaldyhyde.
The innkeeper runs after Eddie.
Kuruk:“this evil must be destroyed
Ulysses:”Why would someone do this?"
Alfred:“Ulysses, I’m beginning to suspect this drunk fellow may indeed have been practicing medicine while intoxicated. I’m not sure if that’s a crime or now, but perhaps we should mention int to Sherriff Earp all the same?”
Eddie:yells up the stairs “What is WRONG with y’all standin’ an’ CHATTIN’ over that thing like it’s a … a teapot or somethin’!”
Ulysses:“I think unwanted decapitation and amputation is a crime, genius.”
Alfred:“It’s not really teapot shaped… were I to describe it as perhaps more of a topiary in form?”
Kuruk:“Enough!!!! I must KILL this aboration!!”
Ulysses:“Maybe you should run and get Erp, Eddie!”
